The difference between Dedicated Web Hosting and shared web hosting
Potential website owners are always confronted with the issue of whether to host their website on shared hosting or go with the more expensive dedicated web hosting. As a general rule, we only need dedicated web hosting if we are running a very large e-commerce website.
If you are running a small business house, you definitely can join shared web hosting services until you get to the point where your business requires the class of performance that can only be provided by a dedicated web server. When you select your domain name, register it and choose a web host. Your web host will provide you certain information required to get your website up and running. This information includes passwords to access your account, paths to the server directories and your domain name servers (DNS). Domain name servers provide you the link between your domain name (yoursite.com) and the Internet Protocol (IP) address. The IP address is a series of numbers like this: 192.198.78.1. Every web server possesses its own unique IP address. The dedicated server hosts a single domain so the IP address is equivalent to the domain name. A site hosted on a dedicated server can be reached on internet as either 192.198.78.1 or as yoursite.com. In contrast, a server providing shared web hosting services contains multiple websites on the same computer but they all have the same IP address. If you simply type in an IP address related with a shared server, you may get an error note or redirect to the hosting company's default web site.
